BALTIMORE, Md. — The Wagner College women's lacrosse team fell to America East member UMBC by a score of 12-5 at UMBC Stadium on Saturday morning.
After falling behind 3-0, the Seahawks (0-4, 0-0 NEC) scored three unanswered goals in the second quarter to tie the game with 6:30 remaining in the quarter. The Retrievers (3-1, 0-0 America East) tacked on one more first half goal to take a 4-3 halftime lead.
Wagner's first half goals came courtesy of senior Shea Saracino, junior Amelia Logan, and sophomore Sydney Mulroony.
In the second half, junior Carolyne Chase found the back of the net for the first time as a Seahawks before Logan netted her second of the game. Wagner held a 5-4 lead with 12:30 remaining in the third.
UMBC would score the final eight goals of the game to prevail, 12-5.
Individually, Logan led the team with two goals and sits atop the roster with six goals this year. Saracino, Mulroony, and Chase scored one each. Mulroony, senior Kristina Pisano, and junior Alex Wright added an assist to their game stat-lines. Pisano collected four draw controls while Mulroony corralled three.
In net, freshman Isabella Odland got her first start as a member of the Seahawks, saving 11 shots, nine of which occurred in the first half. Odland also caused one turnover to her credit.
As a team, the Seahawks won the draw control battle over the Retrievers, 12-6.
Next up, the Green & White continue non-conference action and travel to CAA member Hofstra for a 3 p.m. start on James M. Stuart Stadium on Saturday, March 7.
