STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Wagner College women's basketball team travels to Stonehill for the first road game of the 2025-26 conference season. The Sunday tip-off between the Seahawks and Skyhawks is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. on NEC Front Row at the Merkert Gymnasium.
Since Stonehill's jump to Division I in 2022-23, the Seahawks have a 2-5 all-time record against the Skyhawks and are on a three-game losing streak.
Stonehill (4-8, 0-1 NEC) lost its first NEC game of the season to conference newcomer New Haven, 61-66, on Thursday. Trisha Brown runs the helm of the Skyhawks coaching staff and is in her fourth season doing so.
As a team, Stonehill ranks third in the NEC in points per game (59.8) and fourth in team field goal percentage (37.9%).
Individually, the Skyhawks are led by junior Brooke Paquette who scores 13.2 points per game including 15-points in the conference opener against New Haven. Freshman Reese Roggenburk leads Stonehill in rebounding with 7.5 boards per game, good for third in the conference. Stonehill was picked second in the preseason coaches poll.
Wagner (5-7, 1-0 NEC) defeated Chicago State, 62-51, to begin its NEC slate on Thursday. Head Coach Terrell Coburn eclipsed the 50-win mark with the Seahawks 11-point win over the Cougars, becoming the fifth goal in Wagner women's basketball program history (56 season) to reach the mark. Against the Cougars, sophomore Keana Foz scored 11 of her 13 points in the fourth quarter to go along with seven rebounds while senior Irene Fernandez de Caleya scored a team-high 14 points while playing all 40 minutes of the game.
As a team, the Seahawks rank atop the NEC in steals per game (9.1) and second in the conference in blocks per game (3.33), defensive three-point percentage (25.9%), and offensive rebounds per game (14.3).
Individually, Foz ranks fourth in steals per game within the NEC at 1.8 swipes per contest. Senior Hawa Balde-Camara sits fourth in the conference in blocks per game with 1.1. Both Foz and Balde-Camara ended last season in first place in their respective categories. Junior Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor leads Wagner in points per game with 10.4 points and 6.5 rebounds. The Seahawks were picked to finish seventh in the conference's preseason coaches poll.
A win on Sunday would snap the Seahawks three-game skid against the Skyhawks. A Seahawks' victory over the Skyhawks would make Wagner 2-0 in NEC play for the first time since 2022-23.
The last time these two teams met was in the 2024-25 NEC Tournament semifinal round where the Skyhawks won, 72-50, at Merkert Gymnasium.
After taking on Stonehill, Wagner heads to Saint Francis for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off at DeGol Arena on Thursday, January 8.
