STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Representing Wagner on Staten Island while another portion of the team hit the road, eight Seahawks competed in the Mets Indoor Championships on Friday.
Senior Franklin Simms finished third in shot put for the Seahawks, logging a 15.45m throw to finish just behind a pair of top-two finishers from Monmouth as he settles into indoor season. Sophomore Matthew Menechino logged a 5.87m long jump as Wagner's lone jumper competing in the meet.
Sophomore Christopher Hall was the first competitor of the day for the Seahawks, running a 7.31-second 60m dash. Junior Andrew Wood ran a 7.46-second 60m dash, also logging a 24.38-second time in the 200m. Freshman Christopher Maruyama joined Wood in his heat, finishing with a 24.68 time. Fellow freshman Nnamdi Smith ran a 24.88-second 200m.
Competing for the first time this season, senior Omar Abdelaziz ran a 24.93 200m time, with freshman Christian Mullins rounding out the Wagner contingent in the event with a 26.33 finish.
After the conclusion of this weekend, the Seahawks will compete in the FastTrack National Invite on Friday, Feb. 6 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex as their final meet before the conference championship.
