STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Wagner College field hockey team (1-3, 0-0 NEC) suffered a 3-1 loss to the Vermont Catamounts (2-2, 0-0 America East) on Sunday.
After a scoreless first quarter, Vermont broke the game open in the second period with three goals in an 11-minute span.
The Seahawks answered in the third quarter when junior forward Natalie McGivern scored her third goal of the season in the last two games midway through the third quarter, finishing off a setup from junior Floortje Leunisse.
The duo connected to account for all three goals scored during the weekend for the Seahawks.
Wagner attempted 11 total shots, including three on goal, with freshman Julia de Leeuw leading the team with three attempts. On the other side, the Catamounts took nine shots with seven on target.
Defensively, Saar van Dalen made four saves in goal, while the Seahawks earned six penalty corners compared to Vermont's two.
Wagner was unable to cut into the Catamounts' lead over the final 15 minutes, as the loss moves Wagner to 1-3 on the year, while Vermont improves to 2-2
Next up, the Seahawks will travel to Norfolk, VA for a matchup with Old Dominion on Friday, September 12.
