BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - Wagner College freshman forward Julie Povel was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week after scoring two goals and adding one assist in the Seahawks' 6-0 win over Mercyhurst.
For Povel, she assisted Wagner's first goal of the contest before finding the back of the cage during the second and third quarters to cap off a five-point performance in just 45 minutes of action.
The newcomer from the Netherlands earned her first collegiate goals and assist as a member of the Seahawks roster. Povel is now one of three NEC rookies to score multiple goals this season.
The Vught, Netherlands native became the first Seahawk to garner the NEC Rookie of the Week award since Saar van Dalen took home the award twice during the 2024 campaign..
Along with Povel, junior Floortje Leunisse and van Dalen received NEC Prime Performer honors for their showing at Sacred Heart and against Mercyhurst.
Leunisse scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Sacred Heart before scoring two goals against the Lakers two days later. Van Dalen secured her second shutout of the season at Sacred Heart before ensuring a scoreless first half against Mercyhurst. Against the Pioneers, van Dalen saved four shots.
Next up, Povel, Leunisse, van Dalen, and the rest of the Seahawks travel to conference member Saint Francis U for a 3:00 p.m. meeting with the Red Flash on Friday, October 3 on DeGol Field in Loretto, PA.
