Three Seahawks Earn NEC Scholar-Athlete Of The Year Honors; Most In School History

Staten Island, NY - Three Seahawks received the distinction of being named 2025 Northeast Conference (NEC) Scholar-Athletes of the Year, announced by the conference on Wednesday.

Senior Katie Siverson representing women's lacrosse, senior Emma Lofstedt representing field hockey, and senior Jade Schoenfeld representing women's tennis all earned the conference's Female Team Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor after they completed their undergraduate careers with 4.00 grade-point averages.

In its 19th year, the NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, which is sponsored by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives, goes to the male and female team student-athletes who have graduated after compiling the highest grade-point average in the Conference at the conclusion of the academic calendar.

On the field, Siverson was named team captain and All-NEC First Team after scoring a team-high 31 goals and 48 draw controls. Silver was named the conference's Player of the Week after scoring five goals, causing three turnovers, and collecting one ground ball in an 11-10 overtime win against Mercyhurst on April 26 to clinch a share of the NEC's regular season crown for the third time in Wagner women's lacrosse's 28 seasons.

Siverson is the only Seahawk to score at least one goal in all 14 regular season games played this season and has earned five hat-tricks during the year.

During the regular season, the Morristown, NJ native ranked fifth in the NEC in goals scored per game with 2.21, eighth in shots attempted per game with five, and tenth in total points per game with 2.43.

In the classroom, Siverson graduated with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting.

Lofstedt also earned herself a regular season title under first year Head Coach Aubrey Mytych after the Wagner field hockey team defeated Rider by a score of 2-1 on November 1 to finish the conference circuit with a record of 7-1. The Seahawks concluded as outright NEC regular season champions for the first time in program history.

The Durban, South Africa native was named the conference's player of the week after scoring two goals and adding one assist in a 4-0 win over conference rival LIU on September 27. Prior to missing a majority of the season with an injury, Lofstedt was tied for second in the league with four assists throughout eight games of play.

Lofstedt finished her 2024 season with 11 games played, nine of which were starts, scoring two goals and four assists to earn eight total points.

In the classroom, Lofstedt is graduating from Wagner with a degree in Behavioral Economics.

On the court, Schoenfeld took down Hofstra's Megan Maragliano at the Columbia Invitational last September, going 7-5, 4-4, before Schoenfeld took the win by retirement.

During the 2023-24 season, Schoenfeld and duo partner Paula Ysabelle Uy defeated Norfolk State's Sabina Maria Lurea and Isabella Cornell, 6-1, en route to a 4-1 victory over the Spartans.

In the classroom, Schoenfeld is graduating from Wagner with a degree in Music Vocal Performance.

"These student-athletes are extremely deserving of NEC Team Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognition," said NEC Commissioner Noreen Morris. "In addition to ability, it takes a great deal of commitment to attain a perfect 4.0 GPA, all while competing at the highest level as a Division I athlete. Congratulations to this impressive group!"

For the first time in Wagner College athletics history, three student-athletes were named onto the NEC's Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Teams, let alone having three Seahawks qualify for only the Female Team. Wagner's three female honorees matched the NEC record, which was set by Saint Francis U in 2022-23.

The most recent Seahawks to attain the NEC's Scholar-Athlete of the Year nod was Madeleine Delore, representing women's swimming & diving, after the 2021-22 year.

Five different Seahawks have been named to the conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year list throughout the last 18 releases, prior to three - Siverson, Lofstedt, and Schoenfeld - being award the honor in 2025.

Six other NEC student-athletes earned the conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor for the year of 2024-25.
