Staten Island, NY – Junior R.J. Greene of the Wagner College men's basketball team has been selected to the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Greene earned recognition for his outstanding performance both on the court and in the classroom.
The Bronx native transferred to Wagner after spending two seasons at Northeast Conference (NEC) member LIU. During his junior year on Grymes Hill, Greene appeared in 28 out of Wagner's 30 games during the Green & White's 2024-25 campaign.
The Bronx native averaged 8.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists during 19.8 minutes of action per game, playing a prominent role for Head Coach Donald Copeland's bench unit that averaged 24.4 points per game which ranked the Seahawks at 62nd best in the nation in the category.
Greene was named an NEC Prime Performer four separate times during the 2024-25 season, eclipsing double-figures in scoring ten times across his 28 games played.
Back on November 19, Greene scored a buzzer-beating layup to take down the Boston University Terriers by a score of 60-59. Greene scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the victory.
In three different games, Greene attempted more than ten free throws - 10-14 against Coppin State on December 8, 8-13 at NJIT on December 14, and 11-14 at Mercyhurst on January 18 - Greene led the Seahawks in free throws made and attempted, taking an average of 4.4 free throws per game.
Greene was the only Seahawk on the 2024-25 roster to record ten or more points, ten or more rebounds, and ten more assists during any game throughout the season.
Academic All-District selections move on to the Academic All-America ballot, with the first, second, and third-team honorees to be revealed on April 15.
To be eligible for nomination, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA, have participated in at least 90 percent of the season's events, or have started in at least 66 percent of the team's games.
