Women’s Water Polo Sweeps Weekend At La Salle

Philadelphia, PA – The No. 19 Wagner women's water polo team improved to 6-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, securing victories over La Salle (25-16), VMI (21-12), and Villanova (17-13) at Kirk Pool.

Wagner jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back, controlling the game from start to finish. Junior Martina Parisi set the tone for the Seahawks, scoring the first two goals of the game as Wagner quickly built a commanding 5-0 lead. In the first quarter, the Seahawks outscored La Salle 7-2, maintaining their early momentum. In the second quarter, junior Ana Arias struck first for the Seahawks with 7:40 on the clock, further extending their advantage. Wagner continued to dominate the period, and with just three seconds remaining before halftime, sophomore Maylen Sampedro Tarela added another goal to give Wagner a 16-6 lead going into the break.

Wagner kept their foot on the gas in the third quarter, adding to their lead with a 6-5 edge in the period, bringing the score to 22-11. The Seahawks extended their advantage even further in the fourth quarter, with junior Maggie Pike scoring a goal that gave Wagner their largest lead of the game, 24-12, with 6:33 left to play. In the final moments, Wagner finished strong, securing the 25-16 win over the Explorers. The 25 goals marked a new season-high for the Green & White.

  Game 2 Results - #19 Wagner 21, VMI 12

Senior Carlota Alonso and junior Magali Ogg scored the first goals of the game for Wagner, helping the Seahawks quickly jump to a 2-0 lead. VMI responded by matching them, but the Seahawks regained control, outscoring VMI 7-3 in the opening quarter. The Seahawks opened the second period with three unanswered goals, further extending their lead. They continued their dominant play, scoring six more goals while holding VMI to just three. By halftime, Wagner led 13-6 and looked firmly in control of the game.

In the third quarter, Wagner kept the pressure on, adding five more goals while VMI could only manage one. Senior Cephira Parker found the back of the net for Wagner with 5:06 left in the quarter, helping to push the Seahawks' lead to 18-7 heading into the final period. Wagner finished strong in the fourth quarter and secured a 21-12 victory over VMI.

  Game 3 Results - #19 Wagner 17, Villanova 13

Seniors Carlota Alonso and Casey Taylor scored the first two goals of the game for Wagner, helping the Seahawks take an early 2-0 lead. Villanova quickly matched Wagner with two goals of their own, and the teams exchanged goals throughout the quarter, with Wagner holding a slight 5-4 advantage at the break. The Wildcats came out strong in the second quarter, scoring the first two goals to take a 6-5 lead with 7:05 left in the period. However, Wagner responded well, regaining control by holding Villanova to just one more goal while scoring three of their own. By halftime, the Seahawks led 8-6, maintaining control of the game while remaining wary of the Wildcats' potential to rally.

To open the third quarter, senior Casey Taylor found the back of the net, giving the Green & White a 9-6 lead. Wagner continued to build on their advantage, outscoring Villanova 3-2 in the third period to take a 12-8 lead heading into the final period. The Seahawks stayed composed in the fourth quarter, finishing strong and securing a 17-13 win over the Wildcats.

  Next Up: Wagner will be back in action on Saturday April 5, against LIU and on Sunday April 6, against Siena and Mount St. Mary's. All games will be played at the Pavilion Swim Center in Villanova, PA.
