Softball Drops Doubleheader To Central Connecticut State

New Britain, CT – The Wagner College softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Central Connecticut State on Saturday, March 22.

Game 1: CCSU 7, Wagner 0

Central Connecticut State jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first two innings. The Seahawks had a promising opportunity to respond in the top of the fourth when sophomore Lea Rachal was on second base and junior Geanice Morales was on third. However, they were unable to capitalize, going down in order before the inning ended.

In the sixth inning, the Blue Devils went on to score five runs and the Seahawks couldn't respond back.

Sophomore starting pitcher Karson Zavala pitched 5.2 innings allowing four hits, giving up seven runs while striking out five batters. Junior Emma Crosby relieved Zavala pitching 0.1 innings allowing two hits.

Game 2: CCSU 5, Wagner 0

Game two starts off a little slow as both teams didn't put runs on the board in the first two innings. In the bottom of the third inning, the Devils scored their first run of the game and didn't look back as they scored four more runs in the fifth inning. The Seahawks couldn't respond with a run of their own to put on the board.

Junior Natalie Rodriguez took the mound for Wagner, pitching four innings, allowing five hits, one run, and striking out one batter. Junior Emma Crosby came on in relief, tossing two innings, giving up four hits and four runs while striking out three batters.

The series concludes tomorrow with game three set to begin at 12 p.m.
