Teaneck, NJ - The Wagner College men's basketball team dropped its matchup to the FDU Knights on Saturday afternoon by a score of 69-58 at the Bogota Savings Bank Center.
With the loss, the Seahawks drop to 12-12 on the 2024-25 campaign with a 4-7 mark in Northeast Conference (NEC) play.
FDU improves to 10-15 on its season with a record of 6-4 in conference.
In the first half, the Knights and Seahawks tied the game six separate times, with the lead changing hands just twice throughout the period.Â
For a majority of the half, the Seahawks led, garnering a 10-point lead after a senior Zaire Williams layup with 8:24 remaining in the first half.Â
The Green & White outscore the Knights in points in the paint (14-8), second chance points (7-4), and bench points (9-3).
The Knights would end the first half on an 18-8 run to tie the game, 28-28 after 20 minutes of action.
Williams and graduate student Zae Blake led the Seahawks offensive with seven points each. Graduate student Ja'Kair Sanchez followed closely with six points.Â
FDU jumped out to a 13-point lead midway through the second half. The Seahawks would continue to fight, chipping away at the Knights lead to make it a six-point game after Blake scored a layup with 2:24 left in the game.
In the end, the Knights would prevail over the Seahawks by a score of 69-58 thanks to a 41-point second period.Â
FDU shot 19-23 (82.6%) from the foul line in the second half alone, going 25-32 (78.1%) throughout the course of the game.Â
The Knights also outscored the Seahawks in points in the paint (16-8), points off turnovers (13-8), and fast break points (10-2).
Graduate student Bismark Nsiah scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for FDU.
For Wagner, Williams scored 15 points, Blake added 13, as graduate student Ja'Kair Sanchez chipped in 12. Freshman Zavier Fitch also added nine points and eight rebounds in a start.
Next up, the Seahawks will travel to Syracuse to take on the Le Moyne Dolphins on Thursday, February 13. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
