Syracuse, NY - The Wagner College men's basketball team suffered a 72-68 overtime loss to the Le Moyne Dolphins on Ted Grant Court on Thursday night.
The Seahawks led early in the game, leading 12-6 after a senior Zaire Williams layup with 12:23 to go in the first half.
Wagner and Le Moyne kept within close range of one another for a majority of the first half. Throughout the last nine minutes of the first period, the Dolphins would go on a 17-4 run to take a 28-18 advantage heading into the break.
In the first half, graduate student Ja'Kair Sanchez scored a team-high eight points on 3-3 from the floor in his return to his hometown. Williams scored four points as senior Javier Ezquerra and juniors Keyontae Lewis and RJ Greene all added two points each.
Wagner shot 8-23 (34.8%) from the floor as a team in the first half while Le Moyne shot 10-29 (34.5%) during that same span.The Dolphins also benefited from an 11-0 advantage in points from turnovers and an 11-2 advantage in bench points in the first half. The Seahawks also committed nine first half turnovers compared to the Dolphins' one.Â
Le Moyne would build on its lead into the second period, eventually leading by 13 points with 12:20 remaining in the game.Â
Down 58-50 with 2:43 remaining, the Seahawks would mount a 12-4, punctuated by a Zaire Williams corner three-pointer as time expired to send the contest into overtime, 62-62. Along with Williams, Greene, Ezquerra, and graduate student Zae Blake all scored crucial baskets during the final minutes of regulation to grant the Seahawks an opportunity to force overtime.
In the second half, the Green & White shot 50% from the field and from beyond-the-arc compared to Le Moyne' 38.1% from the floor and 30% from three-point range.Â
Wagner outscored Le Moyne 44-34 in the second half to force its second overtime game of its season.
In overtime, sophomore guard AJ Dancler scored eight of his 17 game points during the frame to help Le Moyne capture its third conference win of the year.
Greene led the Seahawks in points scored with 15 on 6-10 from the field with seven rebounds and two assists in 24:39 of action.
With the loss, the Seahawks drop to 12-13 on their 2024-25 campaign, with a mark of 4-8 in conference action.
Wagner outscored Le Moyne 24-18 in paint points as well as 36-16 in bench points.
Next up, Wagner will welcome Stonehill to the Spiro Sports Center on Thursday, February 20. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
