Women's Water Polo Earns Two Victories At The Bruno Classic

Cambridge, MA -  The No.21 Wagner women's water polo team earned two victories at the Bruno Classic over the weekend. The Seahawks defeated Salem 17-7, and Siena 14-8, and fell to No.20 Harvard and No.11 Indiana.

Game 1 Results - #21 Wagner 17, Salem 7

Junior Carlota Alonso got the weekend started for Wagner with the opening goal to start the Seahawks quick 5-0 start against Salem. The Green & White led 7-3 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Wagner added two more goals en route to a 9-4 margin at halftime. 

In the third quarter, the Seahawks scored four unanswered goals before Salem added one to end the period. The Green & White added four more goals in the final period capped off by senior Emma Stec with a goal with :19 seconds left to give the Seahawks a 17-7 victory.

Game 2 Results - #21 Wagner 11, #20 Harvard

To begin the game Harvard got off to a 5-2 lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Seahawks added two goals to the Crimsons one to bring themselves within two, 6-4, at halftime. 

In the third quarter Alonso added three goals and Ogg added one as the Seahawks trailed 11-8. In the final period, the Crimson held off the Seahawks as Wagner fell 15-11

Game 3 Results - #21 Wagner 14, Siena 8

The Saints scored the opening goal of the game however the Seahawks led 3-2 at the end of the opening frame. Wagner shut out Siena in the next quarter and added three goals courtesy of two from senior Casey Taylor and one from freshman Alex Andrist.

In the third quarter, five different Seahawks scored a goal each compared to three from Siena. Both the Saints and the Seahawks added three goals in the last frame as Wagner held on for a 14-8 victory.

Game 4 Results - #21 Wagner 11, #11 Indiana 16

The Hoosiers jumped out to an early 5-1 lead to begin the game and then 9-3 at halftime. 

The Seahawks outscored Indiana 3-2 in the third quarter thanks to goals from senior Lizzy Koerper, junior Magali Ogg and Alonso. Three different Seahawks accounted for five goals in the fourth, however Wagner fell short, 16-11.

Next Up: The Seahawks will head to Bloomington, IN for the Midwest Invite this weekend. On Saturday, February 8, Wagner will face No.2 Stanford at 1:30 PM and No.11 Indiana at 5:00 PM. On Sunday, the Seahawks will face #13 Michigan at 8:30 AM.
