Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's basketball team (6-17, 3-8 NEC) defeated Le Moyne (4-19, 4-6 NEC), 61-56, at the Spiro Sports Center Thursday night.
Graduate student Julia Fabozzi led the charge for the Seahawks recording 24 points, 13 rebounds along with a block and a steal in 36 minutes of action. Fabozzi also tied a career-high with five three-pointers made on the day.
Graduate student Taleah Washington added 10 points while junior Irene Fernandez de Caleya chipped in nine points and seven rebounds along with four steals off the bench.
In the first quarter, there were five lead changes, with a three-pointer from Washington with 42 seconds left bringing Wagner within two, 20-18, by the end of the period.
The Seahawks led by as many as seven points in the second quarter, 33-26, with 3:24 to go. Wagner limited Le Moyne to just 2-6 shooting in the period and took a 36-31 lead into the break.
Fabozzi opened the second half with a three-pointer from 23 feet.
The Green & White extended their lead to as much as nine points, 43-34, with 5:51 remaining. However, the Dolphins ended the quarter on a 10-2 run and trailed by just one, 45-44, heading into the final frame.
At the 4:48 mark of the fourth, the Dolphins tied the game at 49. Fabozzi responded with another three-pointer, putting Wagner back on top.
The Seahawks gradually pulled away and held Le Moyne to just 26.24% shooting in the second half, securing a 61-56 victory.
With the win, the Seahawks split the season series with the Dolphins, 1-1.
Next, the Seahawks will travel to Easton, MA for their first of two matchups against Stonehill on Thursday, February 20 at 7 PM.
