Syracuse, NY — The Wagner women's basketball team took a tough loss on Saturday, falling 62-52 on the road at Le Moyne.
Leading at the end of the first, second, and third quarters, Wagner kept things close until the end. Holding onto a 44-42 lead going into the fourth quarter, the Seahawks could not hold up against a late push from the Dolphins. To end the game, Le Moyne outscored the Seahawks 20-8 in the fourth quarter.
Despite not being able to get the late offensive push needed to win the game, graduate
Julia Fabozzi and freshman
Keana Foz brought life to the Seahawks on offense, scoring 16 and 12 points respectively.
Wagner got hot through the middle of the game, shooting 57.14% and then 54.55% from the field in the second and third quarters. The defense also held strong through that stretch to back up the offensive effort, holding Le Moyne below 50% shooting from the field in the first three quarters.
Foz also had a team-leading seven rebounds and went 6-of-8 from the field in her 29 minutes on the floor. The Seahawks won the battle in the paint, scoring 30 to Le Moyne's 22.
Taleah Washington,
Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor,
KC Carter, Klea Kacy and
Irene Fernandez de Caleya were the other five scorers for the Seahawks.
Le Moyne recorded 49 bench points to Wagner's 12. It was a tight game until the Dolphins pulled away late, with four ties and five lead changes through regulation.
Coming off a close loss to SFU last Saturday, the Seahawks were looking to get a win on the road but will sit at 5-15 through the season and 2-6 in Northeastern Conference play to start the month of February.
The Seahawks will be staying on the road for their next game, getting back in action at Long Island University on Thursday, February 6 at 7 P.M. EST.
