Track & Field Puts Up Strong Numbers At John Thomas Terrior Classic

Boston, MA — The Wagner College Seahawks put up a strong performance on Friday and Saturday at the John Thomas Terrior Classic.

Senior Ruth-Ann Chambers led the Green & White on the women's side, with a strong finish in two invitational events at the meet, the 60m hurdles and the 400m dash. Chambers finished fourteenth in the 400m dash with a time of 56.34, followed closely behind by sophomore teammate June Fernandez who ran a 57.19. In the 60m hurdles, Chambers earned a first-place finish with her 8.76 time.

In the 200m dash, freshman Christine Manneh had an incredibly strong run for the Seahawks. Her 5:20.49 time was good for fifth out of 120 runners. In the women's field events, junior Julia Garcia had a top-ten finish, taking ninth place and recording an 11.21m performance in the triple jump. Alongside her with another top-ten placing, junior Elisa Parzzi's 1.60m high jump earned her seventh out of the field of 21.

In the men's field events on Friday, senior Kharlin Watkins earned twelfth place in the long jump event with a 6.68m jump. He beat that performance on high jump, going 1.96m for a second place finish in the 27-man field. Junior Julio Martinez put up a top-five performance in pole vault, with a 4.60 finish good for fourth place.

Those strong results carried over to the track performances on Saturday. Junior Dante Rodney put up a blazing 9.56 time in his 60m hurdles event, good for a fourth-place finish. In the 60m dash, freshmen Jaden Hobbs and Christopher Hall both ran for top-fifteen finishes, running a 7.21 and 7.22, respectively. In the 400m dash, junior Arjanvir Singh put up a 48.28 time that earned him twelfth place in a field of almost 100 runners. In the 500m run, freshman Ignacio San Juan finished seventeenth with a 1:06.17 time.

On the road in the team's second-to-last meet in the regular season, the Seahawks put up solid numbers across their events, competing in 11 total for the men and 12 for the women. Beginning Friday, January 31 and ending February 1, Wagner athletes had to hit the road for the last time before the team competes a little closer to home next weekend.

The Seahawks will be competing at the Fast Track Invite on Friday, February 7 at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. before the Northeast Conference Championships begin February 6 in the same facility.
