FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The No. 3 seeded Wagner College field hockey team (8-12, 6-3 NEC) fell to the No. 1 seeded Fairfield Stags (15-5, 9-0 NEC) by a score of 3-0 in the 2025 NEC Championship on Saturday afternoon.
In the cage, sophomore Saar van Dalen recorded eight saves, with five coming in the first half. Junior Victoria Gonzalez-Lopez and junior Victoria Bruno both applied pressure with attempted shots on target, but both were saved by Fairfield's Payton Rahn.
The Stags struck late in the first quarter and never let up the lead, earning the victory wire-to-wire.
As a team, Wagner took seven total shots and earned four penalty corners, three coming in the fourth quarter; comparatively, Fairfield took 21 shots with 11 coming on targets, and earned 12 penalty corners with 10 in the first half alone.
Van Dalen, freshman Julia de Leeuw, and junior Floortje Leunisse were all selected to the 2025 NEC All-Tournament Team after the game. For van Dalen, this is her second time attaining the distinction at the conference's postseason tournament.
