BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Sophomore
Florian Schumich earned NEC Swimmer of the Week, and sophomore
Mia Goodale earned Co-Swimmer of the Week for their performances against Southern Connecticut and CCSU, the NEC announced on Wednesday.
This is Schumich's fourth NEC weekly award during his time at Wagner, after winning swimmer of the week and two rookie of the week nods last season. For Goodale, this is her second weekly conference award this season, and her fifth overall.
Schumich competed in four races last Friday and won all of them. He started his night by joining juniors
Manuel Chavez Villalpando and
Senan Noonan, and senior
Joel Knaapi in winning the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.05). He then won the 1000-yard freestyle (9:54.23) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.49) events, before taking first in the 200-yard individual medley. Schumich was the only swimmer at the meet to finish the event in under two minutes.
On the women's side, Goodale shared swimmer of the week honors with CCSU's junior Sophie Milhomens. Like Schumich, Goodale won all four races she participated in, including the 200-yard medley relay (1:48.49) with sophomores
Gaya Savran and
Lovisa Ramsten, and senior
Lia Vendel. Later in the meet, she would place first in the 100-yard freestyle (52.02), the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.31), and the 500-yard freestyle (5:10.01).
Savran also earned her second straight Prime Performer nod this week. Along with the medley relay, she won both the 100-yard butterfly (58.53), and the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.09).
The Seahawks will return to action this Saturday, November 8, when they will travel to Brooklyn and take on LIU. Events are set to begin at 11 a.m. at the Steinberg Wellness Center.
