KINGSTON, R.I. — The Wagner swimming and diving teams finished the four-day long Harold Anderson Invite on Sunday on the campus of Rhode Island. The men's team finished third out of five competing teams, and the women finished fifth out of nine teams. Throughout the entire competition, Wagner won six races, earned 10 2nd-place finishes, and 10 3rd-places finishes.
The first day of the competition saw the Seahawks finish top three in all four relay events. The best finish of the day came from the men's 200-yard medley; juniors
Senan Noonan,
Max Wameling,
Manuel Chavez Villalpando, and sophomore
Florian Schumich swam a 1:31.61 in the event to finish in 2nd place.
Wagner won their first two events of the invite on day 2. Sophomore
Ben McLaughlin won the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 4:35.47, then Wameling and Noonan joined junior
Jose Mancera and senior
Alex Magditch in winning the 200-yard freestyle relay with a 1:22.49 time.
The Seahawks earned nine top-three finishes on day three, their most of the four days. Sophomore
Mia Goodale narrowly came out on top in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing with a 1:50.78 time, less than a tenth of a second ahead of the second place finisher. Later on, Noonan would continue his successful showing with a win in the 100-yard backstroke event (50.57).
Wagner finished the competition strong with two event wins on the final day. McLaughlin won the 1650-yard freestyle event with a 15:51.47 time, being the only swimmer to finish the event in under 16 minutes. Finally, Noonan won the 100-yard freestyle by the slimmest of margins, finishing in 46 seconds flat. The next three swimmers all came within one-hundredth of a second behind him.
