Women’s Basketball to Conclude Three-Game Homestand Against Cornell

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. –
The Wagner College women's basketball team hosts Ivy League member Cornell for a Sunday afternoon tip-off on NEC Front Row.. The Seahawks-Big Red matchup is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Spiro Sports Center.
 

Quick Points 

Sunday's meeting is the first Wagner-Cornell matchup since December 30, 2006. 

With 16.8 offensive rebounds per game, Wagner ranks first in the NEC and tied for 22nd in the nation in the category. The Seahawks rank first in the conference in total rebounds per game with 41.5.

Last time out, the Seahawks held Iona to 16-48 (33.3%) from the floor, the lowest against any Division I opponent this season.

Sophomore Keana Foz ranks third in the NEC with 2.0 steals per game, creating 10 turnovers in her five games.

Doyinsola Modesayor has attempted the most free throws in the NEC with 34, converting on 22 of her attempts.

 

Last Time Out

The Seahawks fell to 1-5 on the young season with a 63-57 loss to Iona on Monday night. At the half, Iona held a 29-17 lead over Wagner. In the first 20 minutes of play, Iona shot 9-25 (36%) from the floor while Wagner shot 6-26 (23.1%) during the same span.

The Seahawks dominated the paint in the fourth quarter of play, outsourcing the Gaels 10-0 in the category. Sophomore Keana Foz led the comeback attempt with seven points, two rebounds, and two assists while junior Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor chipped in four points during the period.

In the end, Iona prevailed by a score of 63-57, after a 24-14 fourth quarter in favor of Wagner. In the second half, Wagner shot 14-30 (46.7%) from the floor and 3-7 (42.9%) from beyond-the-arc.

Fernandez de Caleya recorded team and season-highs in points and rebound, scoring 12 points while adding eight rebounds. Foz followed with 11 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Modesayor and senior Raneem Elbarky chipped in eight points each.
 

The Remainder Of 2025… 

After competing in three straight home games, the Seahawks head back onto the road for a three-game road trip at Columbia on December 6 before heading to Rider on December 13 and University of Rhode Island on December 19. The Green & White wrap up the 2025 year with a matchup against NJCU on December 30 at Spiro.
 

The Series

This is the fourth all-time meeting between Wagner and Cornell, with the Big Red owning a 2-1 lead over the Seahawks. The last time these two teams met on December 30, 2006, Cornell defeated Wagner by a score of 57-42 at the Spiro Sports Center. Wagner is 0-1 against Cornell at Spiro, 1-0 in Ithaca, N.Y., and 0-1 at neutral site venues. 
 

Scouting Cornell

Cornell comes into Sunday's meeting with a 4-3 record, most recently taking down MAAC member Siena by a score of 49-47 in Ithaca. Junior Rachel Kaus averages a team-high 12.1 points per game while adding 5.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, while shooting 45.3% from the field and 36.4% from beyond-the-arc.

Kaus recorded her first career double-double in the win over Mercyhurst on November 14 with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Senior Emily Pape adds 10.9 points and a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game. Cornell is 2-0 against NEC opponents this season, both of which came on the road, defeating Mercyhurst (53-49) and Le Moyne (52-51, OT). Sunday's game against Wagner will be Cornell's third and final game against the NEC this season.
