Women's Basketball Suffers Defeat at Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Wagner College women's basketball team fell to ACC member Syracuse by a score of 78-29 at the JMA Wireless Dome on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks (1-3, 0-0 NEC) scored the first bucket of the game courtesy of sophomore Keana Foz who got a layup to go on the left side of the basket. The Orange (4-0, 0-0 ACC) would respond with a 24-2 run for the remainder of the quarter.

Syracuse outscored Wagner 21-13 in the second quarter to take a 43-17 halftime lead. At the break for Wagner, redshirt senior Priscila Varela led with six points and redshirt junior Klea Kaci added four.

The third period score matched that of the first, as Syracuse extended its lead to 65-21 at the end of 30 minutes. Wagner put up eight points to the Orange's 13 in the final frame of play as Syracuse would prevail in the end. 

Seniors Irene Fernandez de Caleya and Hawa Balde-Camara both had four points in the second half. Throughout the game, Balde-Camara led Wagner with six rebounds. Kaci led all Seahawk scorers with six points, followed by Varela and Fernandez de Caleya who had five each. 

Next up, the Green & White welcome Patriot League member Lafayette to the Spiro Sports Center for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off on Thursday, November 20.
