ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The men's water polo team had a tough game against Navy, falling 13-9 at the Lejeune Hall in Annapolis, Maryland on Saturday evening.
The Seahawks opened the game with sharp energy on offense, with junior
Gabe Johnson and freshman
Landon Castillo each finding the back of the net early in the first quarter. Freshman
Nadav Carmon and sophomore
Smith Connors also scored close to the end of the frame. Despite early momentum, Navy matched Wagner's pace, taking a tie 4-4 after eight minutes of play.
In the second quarter, the Midshipmen began to create separation behind a string of goals in transition. Connors connected to keep the Green & White within reach, but Navy's efficiency with advantage helped them enter halftime tied again 5-5.
The third quarter featured back-and-forth exchanges between both sides, with Carmon tallying again. Navy maintained control, extending their edge to 11-6 heading into the final frame.
In the fourth, Wagner continued to press offensively with two other goals from Connors and another from senior captain
Laszlo Strasser. However, Navy's defensive discipline and late scoring surge secured the 14-9 victory.
Sophomore
Filip Petrovic had multiple key stops anchoring the Wagner defense.
The team will continue their weekend matchups against George Washington in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, Nov. 2.
