Field Hockey's Fourth Quarter Push Falls Short Against Quinnipiac

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Wagner College field hockey team (4-7, 3-2 NEC) fell to Big East member Quinnipiac (6-5, 0-3 Big East) by a score of 2-1 at the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex on Sunday.

Freshman Noor van Duin scored her first goal of her collegiate career to represent the lone score for the Seahawks against the Bobcats. Van Duin scored a rebound off of junior Floortje Leunisse shot which put Quinnipiac's goalie out of position. Leunisse put up six shots with five on target

The Bobcats struck first late in the first quarter and would carry that 1-0 lead into the half. Quinnipiac scored its second goal of the game midway through the third quarter, a few minutes before the Seahawks found the back of the cage themselves. 

On defense, sophomore Saar van Dalen recorded nine saves throughout the contest while freshman Julia de Leeuw earned one defensive save on the day to account for her second defensive save of the season. 

As a team, Wagner attempted 10 shots with six on target and earned three penalty corners; comparatively, Quinnipiac took 19 shots with 12 on target and earned eight penalty corners. 

Next up, Wagner will take on NEC rival LIU on Friday, October 10 at the Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville, N.Y.. The upcoming Seahawks-Sharks meeting will begin at noon.
