NORTH EASTON, Mass. – The Wagner College field hockey team (7-9, 6-2 NEC) defeated the Stonehill Skyhawks (4-12, 4-4 NEC) by a score of 1-0 at W.B. Mason Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Junior Floortje Leunisse scored the lone goal for both sides early in the first quarter. On a penalty corner, freshman Julia de Leeuw ripped a shot from top of the striking circle that rebounded to the stick of Leunisse, who found the back of the cage for her team-high eight goal of the year.
Along with Leunisse and de Leeuw, freshmen Noor van Duin, Julie Povel, junior Natalie McGivern, and senior Abby Reenock all applied pressure offensively with shots on target.
The Seahawks defense proved strong as the Skyhawks did not record a shot on target while only attempting six total shots throughout the 60 minutes of action.
Wagner put up 11 shots with seven on target while earning six penalty corners. Stonehill earned four penalty corners of its own, with three coming during the first half.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Seahawks have earned a trip to the NEC's postseason tournament. With the win, Wagner earned the third-seed in the 2025 NEC Tournament from Thursday, November 6 to Saturday, November 8 on the campus of Fairfield.
