Staten Island, NY - The No. 21 Wagner Women's Water Polo team opens the 2025 campaign with three games at the Princeton Invitational this weekend.
The Seahawks will start by facing Bucknell at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 25th. On day two, the Seahawks will face Asuza Pacific at 11:30 before concluding with No.6 Princeton at 4:00 PM.
Last Season
Last season, the Green & White finished with an impressive 30-5 record, going undefeated in MAAC play at 12-0 to capture their third consecutive MAAC Regular Season Championship. The team has won 11 MAAC championships since 2003, more than any other school, including eight of the last 10 titles since 2014.
Preseason Poll
The Seahawks have been named the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Water Polo preseason favorite, based on a vote by the league's nine head coaches. The Seahawks earned 80 points and secured eight first-place votes, topping the poll.
Nationally Recognized
For the tenth consecutive season, the Wagner Seahawks were listed as a part of the CWPA Top-25 Preseason Poll, coming in at No. 21 prior to the 2024 regular season.
Throughout the course of the season, Wagner will face-off against seven other teams who were listed on the CWPA's Top-25 Preseason Poll.
Last season, Wagner finished as high as No. 16 in the CWPA national rankings.
Conference Dominance
Over the course of the last eight seasons, Wagner has earned an impressive 97-1 record over MAAC opponents.
The only loss came when the Wagner Seahawks and Marist Red Foxes both received forfeits prior to a match on April 15, 2019. Prior to that game, Wagner's last MAAC loss came on April 11, 2015 against Marist.
The Green & White have not lost a regular season conference match in their last 43 games.
The Newcomers
The Seahawks will welcome five new faces to the program, including; goalies Gianna Boscacci and Maria Matamala, attackers Emma Friedlander, Amelia Dean Fayls and Alex Andrist.
The Returners
Overall, Wagner will return eighteen athletes from the 2024 season.
The Seahawks return three players who were named to the 2025 All-MAAC Preseason Team. Senior Carlota Alonso, junior Francesca Sena and sophomore Ana Arias were all named to the team. Alonso was named the MAAC's Preseason Player of the Year while Sena was named the MAAC's Preseason Co-Goalie of the Year.
