Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College field hockey program improved to 6-3 on the season thanks to an overtime win against non-conference opponent Columbia on Sunday afternoon.
Heading into their matchup, the Seahawks had won three straight games by a score differential of 13, holding each of their last three opponents scoreless.Â
At the end of regulation, the Green & White had taken 13 shots, nine on target, and had six corner opportunities. Comparatively, the Lions finished their four quarters with 11 shots taken, with two on target, and had six corner opportunities.
In overtime, Wagner and Columbia both put two shots up, each with one on target.Â
The game-deciding play occurred five minutes and 41 seconds into the first overtime period when freshman Evie de Baar drove up the left side of the field and fired a shot bottom-right that trickled past Lion's goalkeeper Katie Wimmer.Â
For de Baar, this is her third goal of her collegiate career, after scoring two against Hofstra back on September 22.Â
In net, freshman Saar van Dalen earned her eighth complete game and fourth consecutive shutout. The Houten, Netherlands native faced three shots across her 70 minutes in net.Â
On the year, van Dalen has rejected 35 shots with a save percentage of 77.8%.
Next up, Wagner will travel to Fairfield for a Northeast Conference (NEC) matchup against the Stags on Friday, October 4.
