Fairfield, CT - The Wagner College field hockey team fell to 6-4 on the 2024 season after falling to Northeast Conference (NEC) opponent Fairfield, 3-1.
For the Seahawks, this is their first conference loss of the year, falling to 2-1 on the campaign.
Current NEC Rookie of the Week & Defensive Player of the Week conceded her first goal in four games halfway through the first. In the first half, van Dalen rejected three shots on the Stags' five on goal.
Fairfield scored one goal in both quarters to take a 2-0 half time advantage.
In the third quarter, the Seahawks applied the pressure with seven shots, compared to the Stags' one. Sophomore Floortje Leunisse took Wagner's first shot attempt three minutes into the second half.
Additionally, Wagner had four corner opportunities in the frame, holding Fairfield to none in the same period.
Along with Leunisse, graduate student Cami Valor, freshman Evie de Baar, sophomore Charlotte Muller and Pilar Lorenzini recorded a shot attempt throughout the third.
In the final period, Leunisse scored the Green & White's lone goal, earning her team-high seventh goal of the year off of a corner opportunity with three minutes remaining.
Prior to Leunisse's goal, the Stags added their third of the contest to make the score 3-0. In the end, Wagner fell 3-1 to Fairfield
As a team, the Seahawks took 12 shots, with four on target, and had six corner opportunities.
In net, van Dalen stopped six shots, allowing three goals across her 60 minutes of game action.
On the season, van Dalen has saved 41 shots, allowing 13 goals with a save percentage of 75.9%.
Next up, Wagner will complete its two-game road weekend with a non-conference matchup against Temple on Sunday, October 6. Opening pass-back for that game is set for noon.
