Men’s Water Polo Set To Host George Washington And Navy On Saturday

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner Men's Water Polo team welcomes MAWPC opponents George Washington and No. 17 Navy.

The 6-5 Seahawks are now receiving votes on the CWPA Weekly Top-20 Poll after picking up three victories at the Bucknell Invite last weekend.

Last Time Out

In four contests last weekend the Green & White earned three victories including two against MAWPC members. Wagner opened with a 16-14 win over Gannon and closed day one with a 16-15 victory over Mount Saint Mary's. Day two began with a close loss to Bucknell and then capped with a 16-8 win over Johns Hopkins.

Lucky Number 16

The Seahawks are 5-0 this season when they score 16 or more points.

Fresh Faces

Freshmen Smith Connors, Matan Friedenberg, Matt Wedlock, Ian Conway, Cole Christiansen, and Filip Petrovic have all seen significant minutes in the pool this season. Connors scored the game winning goal versus Mount Saint Mary's earlier this season.

Veteran Standouts

The Seahawks return MAWPC first team member Laszlo Strasser as well as a host of steady upperclassmen such as Kyle Chambers, Mattia Bognolo, Luis Camino Sosa and Kristian Stanczewski

Weekly Recognition

Wagner has placed an athlete on each week's MAWPC Honor Roll list each week this season. Strasser, Connors, Stanczewski and Patrick Ray have received Player of the Week honor roll recognition. Petrovic, Connors, Conway, and Christiansen have received Rookie of the Week recognition and Conway has received Defensive Player of the Week honor roll recognition as well.

Around The Conference

The Green & White are currently tied for second place in the MAWPC standings trailing only defending champion Fordham and tied with Bucknell. The Seahawks will play Fordham for the first time later this season on October 12th. Wagner fell to Bucknell by one point earlier this year, 13-12. Our opponents this weekend are currently tied for fourth with Johns Hopkins, Mount St. Mary's and Mercyhurst rounding out the list. The conference tournament will be hosted by Navy from November 22 to November 24 in Annapolis, MD.

Going Forward

Following two contests this weekend, the Seahawks will head to California for the Whittier Mini Invite on Thursday and the Gary Troyer Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
