Field Hockey Holds Hofstra Scoreless To Secure 4-0 Victory

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College field hockey team improved 4-3 with a shutout win against the Pride of Hofstra on Sunday afternoon.

After defeating Northeast Conference (NEC) newcomer Mercyhurst on Friday, the Seahawks earned their second consecutive shutout victory of the season after scoring four goals against Hofstra while allowing none.

The Green & White took 19 shots, with 15 on target, and earned 10 corner opportunities. Defensively, Wagner held Hofstra to eight shots, with three on target, and limited the Pride to only five corner opportunities.

After a scoreless first quarter, freshman Evie de Baar scored her first collegiate goal with five minutes remaining in the second. De Baar put away a dribbler in front of the cage to secure the lead for Wagner.

Later in the same quarter, sophomore Charlotte Muller scored a rebound goal after de Baar put two shots on target to put Hofstra's Roos out of position.

In the second half, de Baar and Muller both scored their second goals of the contest.

In the third, de Baar dribbled straight up the middle of the field and took a shot just inside the shooting circle. The Tillburg, Netherlands native found the bottom left of the cage to secure her second score of the game.

In the final quarter, senior captain Emma Lofstedt assisted Muller who was waiting in front of the cage for her second score of the game, and fourth of the season.

Current NEC Defensive Player of the Week freshman Saar van Dalen played the entirety of the game in net for Wagner, saving three shots and earning her second shutout of the season. Van Dalen's record improves to 4-3 during her first year on Grymes Hill.

Graduate student Cami Valor and de Baar both took six shots throughout the game. Three of Valor's shots were on target as all six of de Baar's were on target.

Next up, the Seahawks will host NEC rival LIU on Friday, September 27 at 3:00 pm at the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex.
