Alec Burnett Named Top-50 Relief Pitcher By D1Baseball.com

Omaha, NE - Graduate student Alec Burnett of the Wagner baseball team has been named a top-50 relief pitcher by D1Baseball.com. Burnett slots in as the 39th ranked relief pitcher in all of Division I baseball according to the media outlet.

The Columbus, IN, native has had a resurgent second season on Grymes Hill, pitching to the tune of a 2.39 ERA and 1.18 WHIP — both team-highs. He has been the de facto closer for the Seahawks, securing six saves on the season, which ranks second in the Northeast Conference (NEC).

Burnett has appeared in 19 games this season, amassing 26.1 innings pitched and recording 42 strikeouts. His opponent batting average of .180 is also a team-high. Only four of the 16 hits Burnett has allowed this season have gone for extra bases.

Burnett and the Seahawks recently played LIU this past weekend where the graduate student picked up a two inning save in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. He allowed two free passes, but gave up zero hits and struck out three batters.
