Bridgewater, CT - Graduate student Dominic Palermo of the Seahawks' men's track & field program secured a school record in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 8:52.81 at the 129th Penn Relays on Thursday, April 25.
Palermo ran a personal-best in the event, and placed in 11th place out of the 29 participants.Â
On Wednesday, April 3, the Staten Island native was named the conference's Track Athlete of the Week after.Â
Then, Palermo ran his way to a second-place finish in the 3000m Steeplechase at the Sam Howell Invite hosted by Princeton. He clocked in a 9:01.75, which was the fastest time in the conference.Â
Palermo's 8:52.81 mark is a new conference-best time in the 3000m Steeplechase, and ranks 81st nationally.
This is the third time the Seahawks was listed as the NEC's Track Athlete of the Week. Palermo is responsible for two of the honors while senior Anthony Bentivegna attained the other honor at the UCF Knights Invite.
Along with Palermo, sophomore Dario Sina de la Fuente and junior Ruth-Ann Chambers were named as Northeast Conference (NEC) Prime Performers for placing second in the javelin throw at the Penn Relays.Â
Sina de la Fuente cleared a mark of 62.76m on his second attempt. Last week, Sina de la Fuente earned the school record in the javelin throw with a distance of 65.07m at the Larry Ellis Invite.
Chambers finished the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:01.28 at the Penn Relays.
Next up, the Green & White will contend for the 2024 NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships from Saturday, May 4 to Sunday, May 5 in New Britain, CT.
