Poughkeepsie - The Wagner women's water polo team defeated Mount St Mary's in the MAAC Semifinal by a score of 16-9 to advance to the conference championship game on Sunday, April 28 at Marist.
The Seahawks and Mountaineers traded goals back and forth throughout the first quarter. Wagner held onto a 3-2 lead thanks to the Arias' sisters.Â
Freshman Ana Arias scored the first two goals for the Green & White, as older sister senior Andrea Arias netted her first goal a half minute after Ana's second score to grant Wagner a one-goal advantage.Â
In the second quarter, Wagner extended its lead to three to hold an 8-5 advantage at halftime. All-MAAC First Team member Carlota Alonso and MAAC Defensive Player of the Year graduate student Pip Nash both came away with two goals during the frame.Â
Andrea Arias scored her second goal of the game, and Wagner's fifth goal of the quarter, with 21 ticks remaining in the half.

In the third, the Seahawks added five goals to further extend their lead 13-8. Sophomore Magali Ogg and senior Mar Navarro both scored their first goals less than one minute into the quarter. Navaro also collected an assist during the game to add to her stat-line.Â
Alonso collected two goals in the frame to bring her game total to four goals up to this point.
With seven seconds left in the third, junior Casey Taylor scored her 19th goal of the season.
Wagner outscored Mount St. Mary's in every quarter, including a 3-1 advantage in the fourth quarter.Â
All-MAAC First Team selection Andrea Arias scored goals three and four in the fourth, as fellow First Team member Carlota Alonso put the exclamation point on the contest with a full length-pool shot to lift the Seahawks over the Mountaineers, 16-9.Â
Sophomore Francesca Sena played the entirety of the match in goal for the Green & White. The Cosenza, Italy picked up her 25th win of the 2024 campaign.
Next up, Wagner will take on Marist in the MAAC Championship title match on Sunday, April 28, at the McCann Natatorium. Ball-drop is scheduled for 1:00 pm as the Seahawks will look to capture their eighth conference title in the last 11 seasons.
