Syracuse, NY - The Wagner College women's lacrosse team will travel to Le Moyne for the Northeast Conference (NEC) quarterfinal on Sunday afternoon.
Season Recap
Wagner ended the regular season with a 5-10 overall record and a 5-5 mark in NEC play. All five of Wagner's wins came during conference play. Senior Kelsey Scheidel led the Seahawks in a number of offensive categories including goals and points. Scheidel's goal total and goals per game total also ranked top-10 in the NEC.
Senior Ryan Murphy's draw controls per game, total draw controls, caused turnovers per game and total caused turnovers all ranked in the top-five in the NEC.
Wagner In The Tournament
Wagner will look to capture its fourth title overall and fourth since 2016. Wagner won the NEC crown in 2016, 2018 and 2019. Wagner has reached the NEC title game in every season since 2014 outside of 2022. In 2022, the Seahawks fell to the eventual champion Mount St. Mary's in the semifinal.
As the #6 seed, Wagner would become the lowest seed in NEC Tournament history to win the NEC crown. This is the first season the NEC Tournament has six teams.
Wagner In The Tournament Under McPartland
Wagner is 1-2 all-time under McPartland in the NEC Tournament, the lone win came in the NEC Semi Final last season against LIU.
Last Time Against Le Moyne
Le Moyne beat Wagner 10-7 back on April 13. The Dolphins held a 7-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter before out scoring the Seahawks 3-1 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
Junior Ella Marino and graduate student Nia Scott each scored three goals for the Seahawks in the first meeting with the Dolphins this season.
About the Tournament
The NEC Tournament has been expanded to six teams ahead of the 2024 season. For the second consecutive season, Sacred Heart will host the Semifinals as the top overall seed. LIU earned the second seed. Le Moyne, Saint Francis U, Stonehill, and Wagner round out the remainder of the field.
