Lewisburg, PA | Princeton, NJ - The Wagner College track & field women's and men's teams split this weekend as most members of the program participated at the Bucknell Invite, while a portion of the Seahawks' program competed at the Larry Ellis Invite at Princeton.
Both events took place from Saturday, April 13 to Sunday, April 14.
At the Bucknell Invite, freshman June Fernandez ran a personal best in the 400m dash, with a time of 56.38. Fernandez placed 10th in the event that had 93 participants.
Fernandez placed 14th, out of 88 finishers, in the 100m dash with a time of 12.17. Junior Ruth-Ann Chambers joined Fernandez in the event, finishing in 27th with a career-best time of 12.43.
Chambers also placed 14th in the 200m dash with a time of 25.26
Sophomore Peyton Miller placed 15th in the 800m run with a time of 2:26.86.
Junior Janee' Patterson placed 32nd in the 200m dash with a personal-best time of 25.61, and 35th in the 400m dash with a time of 58.81.
The quartet of Chambers, Patterson, Fernandez, and freshman Victoria Gontowicz earned a time of 47.69 in the 4x100m relay, placing sixth out of 21 teams.
On the men's side, senior Jason Marchese placed fourth, out of 104 runners, in the 400m dash. The Staten Island native finished the event in 47.87. Marchese also ran in the 100m dash, clocking in a personal-best 10.74 to receive 13th.
Freshman Paride Iacono finished directly behind Marchese in the 100m dash. Iacono placed 14th, out of 114 finishers, in the event with a time of 10.75.
Iacono also took part in the 200m dash where he finished in 25th with a time of 22.16.
Sophomore Alex Taddeo accompanied Iacono in the 200m dash, earning 24th with a time of 22.12.
Taddeo, Marchese, Iacono, and freshman Dallas Jones teamed up to complete the 4x100m relay in a season-best 41.78. The Seahawks earned sixth place out of 18 teams.
In the field, sophomore Julio Martinez found himself in a three-way tie for first place in the pole vault with Shane Racey of Cornell and Jack Lynett of Lafayette. All three athletes cleared a height of 4.60m to share a portion of first, out of 12 athletes, in the event.
Freshman Khalid Brown placed second in the long jump, with a mark of 7.26m on his first attempt. Fellow freshman and current Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week Jack Mason obtained fourth in the event, with a mark of 7.00m on his third attempt.
Senior Ryan Lane joined Brown and Mason in the long jump. The Rochester, NH native's best attempt came on his third with a mark of 6.96m to finish the event in sixth place out of 41 participants.
At the Larry Ellis Invite, junior Gia Comerford improved her current outdoor school record in the 3000m Steeplechase. Comerford finished the event in 10:33.30 to earn seventh out of 14 runners.
Previously, Comerford set the 3000m Steeplechase record back on March 29th at the Monmouth Invite Season Opener, as she finished the event in 10:47.32. Comerford's improved school record dethrones her original record by 14 seconds.
Sophomore Dario Sina de la Fuente stamped his name into the Wagner College outdoor track & field record book with a mark of 65.07m in the javelin throw. On his third attempt, the Palencia, Spain native broke a 64-year record set by Neill Johnson in 1960. Johnson threw the javelin 64.88m to set the original record.
Sina de la Fuente placed first atop 13 other competitors in the event.
Graduate student Dominic Palermo would place eight out of 19 runners in the 3000m Steeplechase. Palermo clocked a time of 9:17.62.
Next up, the Green & White will travel to Lawrenceville, NJ for the Rider Invite on Saturday, April 20.
