Track & Field Competes At Monmouth Invite And Sam Howell Invite

West Long Branch, NJ | Princeton, NJ - The Wagner College women's and men's program split this past week as members of the teams took part in the Monmouth Invite in West Long Branch, NJ, as two Seahawks participated at the Sam Howell Invite in Princeton, NJ.

At the 28th annual Monmouth Invite Season Opener, 19 women's and 17 men's teams participated at the meet.

For the women's team, Ruth-Ann Chambers earned the lone individual first-place finish for the Seahawks. She finished the 100m hurdles in a time of 13.93, missing the school record in the event by .21. 

Chambers was also a part of the 4x100m relay quartet including freshman Victoria Gontoqicz, freshman June Fernandez, and junior Janee' Paterson who combined to complete the event in 47.02, which is a new program record for Wagner College. 

The Seahawks placed first in the 4x100m relay out of seven participating teams. 

Fernandez earned third, out of 41 finishers, in the 100m dash with a personal-best time of 12.26.

Chambers, Fernandez, Paterson, and freshman Magui Calvo-Jorge obtained second place in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:57.29, falling behind second-place Loyola-Maryland in the event by .24.

In the field, sophomore Madison Petricevic threw the javelin 35.03m on her second attempt. She placed third in the event out of 16 athletes. 

Sophomore Elisa Parazzi cleared a height of 1.55m in the high jump to place third out of 12 event finishers.

Junior Agathe Yabit cleared a personal-best distance of 5.33m in the long jump to earn fifth out of 28 finishers. Sophomore Julia Garcia placed right behind her in sixth place with a distance of 5.26m.

On the men's side, junior Maxime Ricci earned himself a second place finish in the 1500m run. The mid-year addition to the program placed third in the 3000m run and the 5000m run at the 2024 NEC Indoor Track & Field Championships. 

At Monmouth, Ricci finished the 1500m in 4:00.85. 

Sophomore Dante Rodney placed third, out of 14 runners, in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.33.

Freshman Paride Iacono obtained fourth out of 39 finishers, in the 100m dash, with a time of 10.91.

In the 200m dash, senior Jason Marchese and sophomore Alex Taddeo placed fourth and fifth in the event, respectively. Marchese finished with a time of 21.45 while Taddeo clocked in with a time of 21.93.

Iacono also placed seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 22.19.

In the field, sophomore Franklin Simms threw the discus a personal-best 49.52m to earn third place, out of 31 finishers.

Sophomore Dario Sina de la Fuente placed fourth, out of 17 athletes, in the javelin. Sina de la Fuente finished with a distance of 59.54m.
 

At the Sam Howell Invite, junior Gia Comerford placed third in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 10:47.32. Comerford earns her first Wagner College outdoor track & field program history in the event, dethroning an almost eight year record by over 20 seconds.

In the same event, graduate student Dominic Palermo earned second out of seven finishers with a time of 9:01.75. Palermo finished less than five seconds behind first-place, Jackson Shorten, of Princeton.

Next up, the Green & White will head to Williamsburg, VA for the Colonial Relays from Friday, April 5 to Saturday, April 6.
