North Andover, MA - The Wagner College women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a 79-65 win at Merrimack on Thursday afternoon.
After Merrimack held a 10-5 lead with 4:20 remaining in the first quarter, Wagner launched a 14-0 run to close the frame. Five different Seahawks scored during the run as Wagner took a 19-10 lead into the second quarter.
Wagner outscored Merrimack 22-19 in the second quarter behind junior Paige Lyons. Lyons scored eight points in the frame on 3-3 shooting from the field, Lyons also shot 2-2 from three-point range. As a team, the Green & White shot 9-16 from the floor in the second quarter.
Wagner took a 41-29 lead into halftime. The Seahawks shot 51.5 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three-point range in the first half.
The Seahawks continued their momentum in the third quarter, as they outscored the Warriors 24-15. Wagner shot 9-16 from the floor and 3-6 from three-point range. Freshman Shamique Cummings scored a quarter-high seven points on 3-3 shooting from the field.
The Seahawks led as much as 26 in the fourth quarter as they earned the victory to snap a seven-game losing streak to end the season.
