Lexington, VA - The Wagner College women's water polo team returned to action after a three-week mid-season break to defeat three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponents at the VMI Tournament from Saturday, March 16 to Sunday, March 17.
On the season, Wagner improves to an 18-3 overall record, with a 4-0 record in conference.
The Seahawks have only one more game that is considered a non-conference matchup, which is when the Green & White head to Princeton, NJ to play the Tigers on Thursday, March 28.

Game 1 Results: #18 Wagner 15 - Mount St. Mary's 7
Wagner would jump out to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter. All-MAAC Preseason Team member senior Andrea Arias was responsible for three of those five goals. The Madrid, Spain native took control of the game early, scoring the first three of the contest. Senior Carlota Alonso and junior Grace Coleman joined Arias in the scoring column to extend the Seahawks' lead. In the second quarter, five Seahawks scored six goals to push their lead to 11-3 going into halftime. Arias and Alonso scored the first two goals of the frame, followed by senior Mar Navarro, graduate student Pip Nash, Alonso again, and freshman Maylen Sampedro Tarela.Â

Alonso and Arias would score their fourth and fifth goals of the game, respectively, as Wagner held a 13-6 lead heading into the final quarter. The Green & White would outscore the Mountaineers 2-1 in the final frame. Sophomore Genevieve Bland and junior Lizzy Koerper would score their first goals of the weekend, as Wagner would prevail 15-7.

Game 2 Results: #18 Wagner 11 - #25 Marist 7
For the second straight game, Arias began the contest with three goals in the quarter, scoring three of Wagner's four goals within the frame. Navarro scored the other goal for the Seahawks midway through the quarter. Arias and Navarro would combine for another pair of goals in the second, as the Seahawks maintained a 6-3 lead at halftime.Â

In the third quarter, Alonso scored her first and second of the game, while Arias scored her fifth to extend Wagner's lead 9-4 heading into the final frame. In the fourth, Andrea Arias continued to pour it on with her sixth and seventh goals of the contest. Arias was responsible for seven of the Green & White's 11 goals in their 11-7 victory over the Red Foxes.Â

Game 3 Results: #18 Wagner 16 - Siena 8
In their lone game on Sunday, the Seahawks finished the first quarter with a 6-3 advantage over the Saints. Navarro got the ball rolling with her fourth goal of the weekend. Sophomore Magali Ogg scored two within the quarter. Andrea Arias scored one goal and Carlota Alonso scored two to round out the scorers for Wagner. In the second quarter, the Seahawks scored five more goals. Alonso would put away numbers five and six, Ogg her third, Arias her second, and freshman Catherine Mentz would score her first goal of the game later in the frame. For Mentz, this is her fourth goal of the season.Â

In the third, the Seahawks would extend their lead to 15-5. Carlota Alonso would conclude her weekend with a five goal performance, scoring her fifth in the third quarter. Alonso would be joined by Navarro, Sampedro Tarela, and sophomore Martina Parisi, who all scored goals in the third quarter. Genevieve Bland would add the final punctuation mark to the weekend, scoring the only goal in the final quarter for the Seahawks, as they defeated Siena, 16-8.Â

Throughout the weekend, sophomore Francesca Sena spent 90:30 in goal. Sena recorded 22 saves, four steals, and four assists across the Seahawks' three games, including a ten save performance against Marist.Â

Freshman Jillian Hemming spent a total of 5:30 in goal, recording three saves and two steals during that time.

Next up, Wagner will host La Salle and Villanova at the Spiro Sports Center on Saturday, March 23. The matchup against La Salle will begin at 10:00 am. After, ball-drop against Villanvoa is scheduled for 2:00 pm.Â
