Women’s Basketball Travels To Central Connecticut State On Thursday

New Britain, CT - The Wagner College women's basketball team will travel to Central Connecticut State on Thursday evening, tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

Last Time Out
Wagner dropped its third consecutive Northeast Conference (NEC) contest with a 79-55 loss at Sacred Heart on February 17. Juniors Rakisha Ballinger and Semie Brar each tallied a team-high 11 points in the loss.

Freshman Kiera Edmonds poured in nine points and 12 rebounds.

Defensive DNA
The Green & White have recorded double-digit steals in nine games this season. Wagner has had multiple players record multiple steals in 14 out of 23 games this season and in seven out of 11 NEC contests.

Wagner ranks 73rd in the nation and tied for first in the NEC with 9.3 steals per contest. The Seahawks also rank 57th in the nation and first in the NEC with 18.78 turnovers forced per game.

Ballinger ranks 79th in the nation with 53 total steals this season. Four Wagner players occupy spots in the NEC's top-15 in steals, paced by Ballinger, who is third in the circuit.

The Arrival Of Kiera Edmonds
Through the last nine games, Edmonds is averaging nine points and 7.4 rebounds. Edmonds has scored in double figures in six out of the last eight games and has tallied at least nine points in the last four games.

Edmonds recorded her second career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds against Saint Francis U on February 15. Edmonds' first double-double came in Wagner's last contest against CCSU back on January 27. The Brooklyn, NY native poured in 15 points and 11 rebounds in the Wagner win.

Edmonds ranks first in the NEC with 2.95 offensive boards per contest.

Rakisha Ballinger Doing It All
Over the last eight games, Ballinger has scored in double figures in six out of the last eight games. Ballinger is averaging 10.7 points per game over that stretch.

The Hyattsville, MD native has recorded at least one steal in every game since Wagner's game at Columbia on December 10.

Ballinger ranks 42 in the nation and third in the NEC with 2.41 steals per contest. Ballinger has scored over 15 points on three separate occasions this season and is averaging 8.9 points per game in conference play.

Noo The Glue
Taleah "Noo" Washington ranks second in the NEC with 3.6 assists per contest.

Washington scored a career-high 29 points against LIU on January 8, the most for a Seahawk since Emilija Krista Grava netted 32 points back on March 5, 2021.

Washington leads the Seahawks with 10.2 points and 4.0 assists per game through NEC play. She also ranks second on the Seahawks with 5.1 rebounds per game through conference play.

Through nine conference game appearances, the District Heights, MD native has recorded five or more assists on four separate occasions. Washington has also brought in five or more rebounds in seven out of nine conference games.

Washington scored a team-high 16 points at FDU on February 9 before scoring a team-high 17 points against Saint Francis U on February 15.

Welcome Back, Julia
Senior Julia Fabozzi made her return to the court against Saint Francis U after having ACL surgery on August 4.

Last season, Fabozzi appeared in all 28 games while making 17 starts. The Staten Island, NY native averaged 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds during the 2022-23 season.

Scouting Central Connecticut State
The Blue Devils welcome the Seahawks looking to snap a two-game losing streak. In its last contest, CCSU fell 69-54 against Le Moyne.

Samora Watson ranks second in the NEC with 17.5 points per game, Belle Lanpher ranks second in the NEC with 13.2 points per contest.

The Series
Wagner is riding an eight-game winning streak against CCSU, the teams are deadlocked at 23-23 all-time. The Seahawks are 5-0 under head coach Terrell Coburn against CCSU. Wagner is 10-12 all-time on the road against CCSU.

Last Time Against Central Connecticut State
Wagner earned a 49-45 win against CCSU at the Spiro Sports Center on January 27. Kiera Edmonds notched her first career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Along with Edmonds, sophomore Angelie Ricard tallied 12 points while Rakisha Ballinger scored 11.  Edmonds earned NEC Rookie of the Week after her career-best effort against CCSU.
 
Wagner's 45 points against was the lowest point total for an opponent this season.

What's Next
Wagner will be back on the road on Saturday, February 24 when they travel to Brooklyn, NY to take on LIU, tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
