Bridgewater, NJ - Freshman Connor Roche of the Wagner baseball team has been named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
The third base position was up for grabs heading into the team's opening series versus #15 North Carolina, but Roche made a lasting impression in his first game at the hot corner.
Along with two web gems in the field during Friday's season opener, Roche drove in the first run of the season for the Seahawks on an RBI single. He followed up his first career hit with his first career home run in his next at-bat.
Roche finished the weekend with a 1.166 OPS and team-leading .833 slugging percentage.
The Westwood, NJ, native and the Seahawks will travel to College Station, TX, for another showdown against a nationally ranked program this upcoming weekend when they take on #8 Texas A&M.
