Fairfield, CT - The Wagner College women's basketball team dropped a Northeast Conference (NEC) contest at Sacred Heart, 79-55 on Saturday.
The Pioneers held a 17-12 lead after the first 10 minutes, the Seahawks kept the Pioneers to just 4-17 shooting from the field in the opening quarter. Freshman Kiera Edmonds notched four points and three rebounds in the first quarter.
Sacred Heart outscored Wagner 19-13 in the second quarter, junior Semie Brar scored five points in the second. As a team, the Seahawks shot 42.9 percent from the floor in the second.
The Pioneers took a 36-25 lead into halftime.
Wagner opened the second half on a 10-0 run through the first 4:23 of the frame, a layup from junior Rakisha Ballinger brought the score 36-35 with 7:11 remaining in the frame.
The Pioneers closed the remaining of the quarter on a 19-8 run to take a 55-44 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Sacred Heart outscored Wagner 24-11 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
Rakisha Ballinger and Semie Brar each tallied 11 points as junior Paige Lyons scored in double figures with 10 points.
Wagner will be back in action on Thursday, February 22 when they travel to Central Connecticut State, tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
