Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's basketball team dropped a heavily contested matchup against Sacred Heart, 63-53, on Saturday afternoon at the Spiro Sports Center. The game featured five lead changes and six ties, with the Pioneers ultimately coming out on top.
Tied at 29-29 at the half, both teams went back and forth for a majority of the second half. A three-pointer from junior Tyje Kelton cut the deficit to five with 4:48 to spare, but Sacred Heart ended the contest on a 9-4 run to come away with the victory.
With the loss, Wagner drops to 6-6 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, while Sacred Heart moves up to 7-5 in league action.
Junior Melvin Council Jr. led the Seahawks with 17 points, while sophomores Julian Brown and Keyonatae Lewis joined Council Jr. as double-digit scorers, with the tandem scoring 11 apiece.
The Green & White will be back in action on Thursday, February 22, when they host CCSU at 7:00 pm.
