Men’s Water Polo Drops Contest To #2 Fordham And Scores Season High 25 Against Mercyhurst

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner men's water polo team competed in two games at the Spiro Sports Center Friday night, picking up a win over Mercyhurst.

Game 1 Results: Wagner 8 - Fordham 20

The Wagner Seahawks came out with intensity against #2 Fordham, jumping to an early 6-4 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Seahawks capitalized on quick offensive plays and a solid defense to hold off Fordham's attack in the opening period.

However, Fordham began to rally in the second quarter, outscoring Wagner to take a 9-6 lead at halftime. Despite Wagner's best efforts, Fordham's high-powered offense continued to break through.

In the third quarter, Fordham extended their lead, putting up five unanswered goals to make it 14-7 going into the final quarter. Wagner struggled to regain momentum as Fordham's defense tightened up and limited the Seahawks' scoring opportunities.

Fordham maintained their pressure in the fourth, ultimately pulling away for a 20-8 victory over Wagner. Despite the final score, the Seahawks showed resilience, especially in the first half, and will look to build on this experience as they move forward in the season.

Game 2 Results: Wagner 25 - Mercyhurst 12

The Wagner Seahawks came out strong against Mercyhurst, setting the tone with a commanding first quarter and establishing an early 9-3 lead. Wagner's offense was relentless, with multiple players contributing to the high-scoring opening quarter.

In the second quarter, the Seahawks continued their offensive push, adding four more goals to bring the halftime score to 13-8. Mercyhurst fought back with a few key goals, but Wagner maintained control going into the break.

Wagner's defense tightened in the third quarter, limiting Mercyhurst's opportunities while extending their own lead to 18-9. With a balanced attack, Wagner kept the momentum firmly in their favor as they moved into the final period.

The Seahawks closed out the game in dominant fashion, adding another seven goals in the fourth quarter to secure an impressive 25-12 victory over Mercyhurst. This strong all-around performance demonstrated Wagner's depth and determination, setting the stage for continued success this season.

Next Up: The Seahawks will host Bucknell at 10 AM and Mount St. Mary's at 2PM at the Spiro Sports Center on Sunday November 10. Before the start of the second game, the Seahawks will honor eight seniors for senior day.
