Field Hockey Falls To Fairfield In NEC Championship Game

Staten Island, NY - On Saturday, October 9, the top-seeded Wagner College field hockey team fell in the NEC Championship game to the third-seeded Fairfield Stags.

After a scoreless first quarter with zero combined shots on goal, Alice Pifferi of Fairfield converted on a penalty stroke in the 22nd minute, giving the Stags the early lead.

NEC All-Tournament Team Junior Pilar Lorenzini put in the equalizer with a penalty stroke of her own early in the second half, her fourth goal of the season.

Shortly after, the Stags retook the lead when Rylee Laloup found the back of the net on an assist by Courtland Schumacher.

Despite pulling NEC All-Tournament Team goalie, freshman Saar van Dalen with eight minutes remaining, the Seahawks failed to score again, falling in the championship by a final score of 2-1.

Freshman Romy Matthies was the final member of the Seahawks to earn NEC All-Tournament Team honors.

In her first year as head coach, Aubrey Mytych led the Green and White to a historic season including winning their first outright Northeast Conference regular season title.
