South Orange, NJ - The Wagner College women's basketball team fell to Seton Hall in the Seahawks first road test of the 2024-25 season.
In the first six minutes of game action, Wagner and Seton Hall saw the lead change hands eight times thanks to three pointers from freshman Elle Johansson, junior Angelie Ricard, junior Irene Fernandez de Caleya, and graduate student Julia Fabozzi.
The Seahawks held a 14-13 lead midway through the opening period. However, the Pirates would go on a 37-8 that turned into a 50-22 lead at the half.
In the third, Fabozzi and Johansson rattled a three-pointer each in the early moments of the period. Seton Hall would go on to extend its lead, 71-30, by the end of the third quarter.
In the final period, Wagner scored 10 points compared to Seton Hall's 13 as the Pirates would win in their season opener, 84-40.
Ricard led all Seahawks in total points scored with 10, making two three-point shots during her 32 minutes of action.
Fabozzi followed Ricard closely with nine points and a team-high five rebounds and four assists.
Johansson provided a spark off the Seahawks' bench nailing two three-pointers in her four attempts, finishing the contest with eight points, two rebounds, and an assist.
As a team, Wagner shot 16 of 48 from the field for a shooting percentage of 33.3%, making seven out of its 23 three-point attempts for a shooting clip of 30.4% from beyond-the-arc.
Next up, the Green & White will travel to Annapolis, MD for a matchup against Navy on Thursday, November 14. Wagner's game against Navy is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 pm.
