Women's Basketball Falls At Navy

Annapolis, MD - The Wagner College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference matchup to Navy on Thursday night.

The Seahawks drop to 1-2 on the young season after losing to the Midshipmen by a score of 79-46.

The Midshipmen began the contest on a 26-3 run, graduate student Raneem ElBarky scored Wagner's first field goal of the game. Junior Angelie Ricard made the team's only three-pointer of the frame shortly after to grant the Seahawks their second field goal.

At the end of the first, Navy led 28-6. 

In the second, Navy extended its lead by two as the Midshipmen only outscored the Seahawks by one bucket in the period. 

Graduate student Julia Fabozzi led all Seahawks with four points, followed by redshirt sophomore Klea Kaci who nailed a three-pointer. ElBarky, freshman Elle Johansson, and sophomore Shamique Cummings all scored one field goal in the quarter.

At half, the Midshipmen led over the Seahawks, 43-19.

In the third, Kaci nailed her second and third three-point field goals of the game. Also in the third, the Green & White tallied their best scoring run of seven, thanks to four points from Sophomore Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor and one three-pointer from Kaci. 

Fabozzi, freshman Keana Foz, and graduate student Hawa Balde-Camara all scored in the quarter.

Heading into the final frame, Navy led 60-34.

In the fourth, junior Irene Fernandez de Caleya led all Seahawks with five points, followed by freshman Elle Johansson with three, ElBarky with two, and Fabozzi and Doyinsola Modesayor with one apiece. 

After outscoring Wagner by seven in the fourth, Navy prevailed by a score of 79-46.

As a team, the Seahawks shot 29% overall, 26% from two-point range and 36% from beyond-the-arc. The Green & White grabbed more defensive rebounds than the Midshipmen, winning the category 26-23.

Individually, Kaci led all Wagner scorers with nine points, Fabozzi trailed closely with eight, ElBarky scored six and corralled five rebounds.

Doyinsola Modesyaor, Fernandez de Caleya, and Johansson each added five points. Ricard scored three, Cummings and Balde-Camara scored two, and Foz added one free throw to round out the scoring column for the Seahawks.

Next up, Wagner will host Northeastern at the Spiro Sports Center on Friday, November 22. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
