Women's Basketball Falls At Iona

New Rochelle, NY - The Wagner College women's basketball team dropped its third road contest of the young season to Iona on Tuesday night at the Hynes Athletic Center. 

The Gaels prevailed by a score of 70-51, earning their first win of the season. The Seahawks' record falls to 1-4 with the loss.

The Seahawks ended the first quarter on a 12-4 to take a one-point lead at the end of the opening frame, 17-16. Wagner outscored Iona 14-10 in points in the paint during the first 10 minutes of game action.

Wagner shot 53.8% (14-26) from the field in the first half, including a 40% (2-5) success rate from beyond-the-arc.

Graduate students Julia Fabozzi and Raneem ElBarky led the Green & White with seven points each as freshman Keana Foz added in five and redshirt sophomore Klea Kaci tallied four points and four assists in 11 first half minutes.

At the half, Iona held a 37-33 lead.

In the third, the Gaels extended their lead to 14 thanks to a 53.8% field goal percentage during the quarter, posting a shooting clip of 7-13. Iona's Talia DePetrillo and Destinee Salgado combined for 14 points in the third to help the Gaels take a 59-45 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Iona would go on to outscore Wagner 11-6 in the final quarter to secure the win.

Fabozzi led the Seahawks in scoring for the second consecutive game, scoring 12 points to go along with eight rebounds. 

ElBarky scored nine points on an efficient 80% shooting from the field to follow Fabozzi in the scoring column.  

Kaci and freshman Keana Foz both finished the contest with seven points each. Kaci nailed two three-pointers as Foz added a season-high 10 rebounds with five assists and three steals to complete her statline.  

For Foz, this is the third game this season in which she has finished with three steals. 

Next up, the Seahawks will travel to Miami, FL for the FIU Thanksgiving Classic from Friday, November 29 to Sunday, December 1 at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. 

On Friday, Wagner is set to face-off against the host-squad FIU Panthers at noon before taking on either Abilene Christian or Sacramento State at 11:00 am on Sunday to wrap up the weekend.
