Women's Basketball's Fourth Quarter Push Falls Short As Seahawks Drop Home Contest To Northeastern

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's basketball team fell to the Northeastern Huskies on Friday night at the Spiro Sports Center.

The Seahawks cut a 27-point third quarter lead down to just 13 with five minutes remaining in the contest, Wagner outscored Northeastern in both the third and fourth quarter but would eventually fall to the Huskies by a score of 71 to 56.

Northeastern jumped out to a 18-6 lead prior to the first media timeout, fueled by a full-court press that caused Wagner to turn the ball over seven times during the first six-and-a-half minutes of game action.

At the end of the first half, the Huskies held a 45 to 21 lead over the Seahawks.

Graduate student Julia Fabozzi found herself at the charity stripe multiple times during the half, shooting a perfect nine-for-nine from the free throw line. The Staten Island native was responsible for 14 of the Green & White's 21 first half points.

In the third, Wagner and Northeastern both made four baskets during the frame. The Seahawks outscored the Huskies 7-2 in both second chance points and points off turnovers, taking six more shots than Northeastern.

Heading into the fourth, the Huskies led 59 to 37.

In the final quarter, Wagner went on a 9-3 run to open the period, cutting a 19-point deficit to 13 in less than four minutes thanks to five points from graduate student KC Carter and baskets from junior Angelie Ricard and freshman Elle Johansson.

In the end, Northeastern prevailed to win its first game of the season, 71-56.

After a 6-11 three-point shooting clip in the first half, the Huskies shot 1-11 from beyond-the-arc in the second half to open the door for the Seahawks.

Wagner's fourth quarter surge was catalyzed by a 7-13 overall shooting mark, with a 3-6 clip from three-point land.

Individually, Fabozzi ended the game with 21 points, five rebounds, and three blocks. Ricard scored nine as Carter chipped in eight, graduate student Raneem ElBarky scored four, and redshirt sophomore Klea Kaci put in six.

Sophomores Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor and Shamique Cummings also scored during the contest.

Next up, Wagner will head to New Rochelle for a matchup against Iona on Tuesday, November 26., Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm.
