Men's Cross Country

Cross Country NEC Championships; Men Finish Runner Ups, Women Take Third

New Britain, CT - The Wagner men's and women's cross country team competed at the NEC Championships this morning, with the men placing second and the women third.

The men tallied 51 points in the 8k and finished runners up to CCSU, who also won the championships last year. 

Senior Justin Morris, junior Maxime Ricci, junior Matteo Saulnier, senior Johnny Sokoll and freshman Keegan Baluja all earned All-NEC honors while finishing in the top-14. 

Morris led the pack with a seventh place finish (26:12.70). Ricci (26:13.20) finished shortly behind in eight place. Saulnier crossed the finish line in 10th (26:40.30) followed by Sokoll (26:40.60) in 12th. Baluja was the second freshman to cross the finish line in this race in 14th place (26:51.80).

The women tallied 62 points in the 5k and took third behind CCSU and Saint Francis U.

Junior Laura Trenado, sophomore Rylee Ferretti and senior Gia Comerford garnered All-NEC honors while finishing in the top-14. 

Trenado led the way for the Seahawks crossing the line in fifth (17:50.80). Ferretti followed shortly behind for a sixth place finish (17:55.50) while Comerford clocked in a 13th place finish (18:20.00). Senior Elizabeth Szambel crossed the finish line in 16th (18:34.40) and graduate student Ana Blanco Duran rounded out the scoring with a 22nd place finish (19:00.20).
