Philadelphia, PA - The Wagner College field hockey team fell to 6-5 on the season after losing to the Temple Owls by a score of 2-1 in double overtime on Sunday afternoon.
Two days removed from taking down the No.18 ranked Liberty Flames, the Owls of Temple and the Wagner Seahawks battled it out for four quarters and one-and-a-half overtime periods.
Wagner scored the game's first goal as graduate student Cami Valor was set up by a steal and dribbling pass by sophomore Floortje Leunisse with one minute remaining in the first quarter.
Temple equalized the contest at one a piece just four minutes into the second off of its first corner attempt of the frame.
Leunisse applied the pressure once again with a shot on target right before the first half horn off of a Wagner corner opportunity.
In the first half, the Green & White took three shots and had three corner opportunities. Comparatively, the Owls tallied five shots and two corner opportunities through the first 30 minutes of action.
After a scoreless third quarter, freshman goalkeeper Saar van Dalen rejected four shots in the fourth to keep the score tied, 1-1, at the end of regulation.
After four quarters of play, van Dalen earned seven saves. Coming into the matchup, the conference's current Defensive Player of the Week allowed 1.13 goals per game, ranking her 13th best in the nation.
In the first overtime, Wagner outshot Temple 2-1 with each team having one corner opportunity.
In the second overtime, Temple put up four shots and scored the game-winner halfway through the period as Temple senior Alizá Maes scored her second goal of the game.
Overall, the Seahawks put up six shots with five on target, while also earning four corner opportunities.
Van Dalen recorded a career-high ten saves, taking her season total to 51.
