Staten Island, NY - In the rematch of the 2023 Northeast Conference (NEC) title match, the Wagner College Seahawks took down the reigning conference champions Sacred Heart by a score of 2-1 in overtime.
Freshman Romy Matthies scored her first collegiate goal with one minute remaining in the first overtime period on Friday afternoon.
On the Green & White's twelfth corner opportunity of the contest, Matthies was set up by sophomore Floortje Leunisse as the Hamburg, Germany native was waiting for the pass in front of the right side of the cage.
Matthies has started all 12 games for the Seahawks, capitalizing on her first shot of the year to grant Wagner its seventh win of the season.
Prior to Matthies' overtime game winner, Wagner tied the match at one a piece on a counter attack early in the fourth quarter.

Saar van Dalen save, Leunisse pushed the ball up the left side of the field and found graduate student
Cami Valor left unattended in front of the cage. For Valor, she picked up her sixth goal of the season, as Leunisse earned assist number three and four during the game.
As a team, the Seahawks took 16 shots, with eight on target, and received 12 corner opportunities. On the other side, the Pioneers took 12 shots, with five on target, and earned five corner opportunities.
In goal, van Dalen played the entirety of the game for Wagner, saving four shots on the day. On the year, van Dalen is up to 55 saves with a 7-5 record during her first season on Grymes Hill.
The Seahawks are 5-1 on Grymes Hill, and 3-1 in conference play.
Wagner has scored 48.1% of its goals in the fourth quarter or overtime, and 70.3% of its goals have occurred during the second half of games.
