Field Hockey Holds Merrimack Scoreless In 3-0 Victory

North Andover, MA - The Wagner College field hockey team improved to 10-5 on the season with a victory over the Merrimack Warriors on Friday afternoon.

In conference play, the Seahawks are now 6-1, tying the 2022 Seahawk team for their best conference record in program history. In that season, the Green & White produced a record of 6-1 against Northeast Conference (NEC) opponents, and finished with an 11-7 overall mark.

After a scoreless first quarter, graduate student and current NEC Prime Performer Cami Valor found the back of the cage off of a sophomore Charlotte Müller insertion.

Valor took a step inside the shooting circle before firing a shot low and right to beat Merrimack goalkeeper Isabelle Gardiner for the contest's first score. With the goal, Valor tied teammates Müller and sophomore Floortje Leunisse as the team's highest goal scorer with eight.

At half, the Seahawks maintained a 1-0 lead.

Wagner would add two more scores in the third quarter. Freshman Evie de Baar put away her fifth of the season off of a rebound shot that originally came off the stick of Müller.

Five minutes later, Leunisse pushed the ball up the right side of the field before finding Valor alone in front of the cage. Valor flipped the shot past Merrimack's Isabelle Gardiner for her team-high ninth goal of the year.

In goal, freshman Saar van Dalen played the entirety of the game for the Seahawks, facing two shots on target, denying both. The Houten, Netherlands native earns her fourth complete shutout of the campaign.

On the year, van Dalen has saved 64 shots, allowing 22 goals for a goals against average of 1.55. Van Dalen's record during her first year on Grymes Hill now stands at 10-5.

As a team, Wagner attempted 25 shots with 12 being on target, while adding 12 corner opportunities to its game statline. For Merrimack, the Warriors took seven shots with two on target, and had four corner opportunities.

Next up, Wagner will travel to Philadelphia, PA for a non-conference matchup against No.20 Drexel. Opening pass-back for that game is set for noon on Sunday, October 27.
